Introduction

Having problems with your Comcast universal remote control? Learn some tricks for resolving the most common issues.

Your Comcast universal remote control will automatically work with your Comcast cable box. You will need to program the remote for it to work with your specific TV. Refer to the instructions that came with your remote if you need assistance with programming, or learn how to program your Comcast unverisal remote.

Solutions to common issues

When using the "All On" button on the remote, remember to point the remote at the TV for at least two to three seconds as this function sends out each power on/off signal seperately.

To confirm that you have programmed your remote control, make sure your remote can:

Change the channels on your cable box.

Control the volume of your TV.

Turn your TV on and off

If your remote control doesn't work after programming

Press the Cable button on your remote to make sure the remote is in Cable mode. The cable button should blink briefly when pressed

  • Make sure there is nothing between the remote and the cable box reveiver that would block the signal. Aim the remote directly at the front panel of the cable box.

  • Stand directly in front of the TV and cable box to reduce the andgle between the remote and the cable box.

  • Firmly press and release buttons on the remote one at a time.

  • Try using a Comcast universal remote from another cable box, if available, to isolate and check for problems. If another remote is unavailable, or the substituted remote still does not function, try to change channels using the buttons on the receiver's front panel. If the channels do not change, there may be a problem with your cable box and not with the remote. If the channels do change, or you are unable to change the channels due to a lack of buttons on your cable box, try to program your Comcast universal remote.

  • Power cycle the cable box. Do this by unplugging it from the electrical outlet, waiting 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.

  • If the substitute remote functions normally, and/or you can change channels via the buttons on the front panel of the cable box, check that the batteries are installed properly or replace the old batteries. When replacing the batteries, replace on battery at a time so that the remote programming is not lost.

  • If your remote doesn't work after trying all of the above, call Business Customer Support at 1-800-391-3000.
